Navigating the Building Regulations with Lucent

Friday, May 26th 2023

Complying with the UK Building Regulations can be a challenge, especially when they are regularly being adapted. As the Government moves ever-closer to the net-zero deadline, statutory documents such as the Buildings Regulations will become increasingly strict to facilitate the path to decarbonisation.

The latest change to be aware of is an update to Part L (2) for General Lighting.

In summary, for buildings other than dwellings, general lighting should have an average luminaire efficacy of at least 95 lumens delivered per circuit-watt in order to comply with the regulations. This is an increase from the previous stipulation of 60 lumens delivered.

This can be difficult to specify – but thankfully, Lucent is here to help.

Our LED51HE (High Efficacy) is a new module, which when combined with 6 of our standard downlight ranges will meet this output.

You can find out more about our High Efficacy Part L Compliant Downlights on our product page. As well as an overview of the regulation-ready solutions, you’ll find all the supporting specification information.

Part L Dwellings (residential) and Part L Display Lighting of the Building Regulations are easier to comply with, as it is only source lumens that are required to meet the set standards. These are 75 lm/W for residential, and 85 lm/W for display.

This means that all our fixtures using the standard LED51 static module comply with this – which makes your job much easier when you specify Lucent.

With Lucent, compliance is straightforward.
