Lucent Lighting has demonstrated its dedication to sustainability as part of an insightful panel discussion at the Net Zero Lighting Conference on Thursday 2nd May 2024. Hosted by The Lighting Industry Association (LIA) and Recolight, the Net Zero Lighting 2024 conference focused on the practical steps that lighting manufacturers can take to reduce the carbon emissions of all parts of their operations, to contribute to the low carbon economy.

This one-day event brought together a range of experts from both the lighting industry and other sectors to advise on best practices in taking the journey to net zero. Lucie Sidwell, Global Operations Director for Lucent Lighting, took part in a vital panel discussion at the event. In the final panel session of the day, titled ‘Commercial imperative or environmental responsibility’, Lucie shared insights into how Lucent Lighting is spearheading innovation in the industry while staying true and committed to improving sustainability.

The panel discussed whether there is a contrast between doing the right thing in terms of environmental responsibility and managing a commercially successful lighting business, including whether the marketing narrative of sustainability credentials results in commensurate sales and margins.

Lucie shared how Lucent Lighting is committed to making changes that lead to a more sustainable future. She also provided valuable insights into how the industry overall can move towards the goal of net zero, and what steps need to be taken to secure this sustainability in lighting.

She stated that the industry of the future needs to have a clear ‘one legislation for all’ to help manufacturers adhere to one rule, making it easier to follow regulations that achieve the same goal. More also needs to be done to educate end users on end-of-life processes and options for products, to move away from sending products to landfills.
