Lucent Lighting takes pole position at the F1 Arcade®, Birmingham

A brand new F1® racing experience in Birmingham, UK, is benefiting from the superior lighting solutions from leading manufacturer of performance architectural lighting, Lucent Lighting.

The F1® Arcade is the world’s first official Formula 1® Simulator that brings together a love of the sport and a place for socialising, drinking and dining. The Birmingham location is the UK’s second opening of the venue, with the first site in London. With 53 bespoke full-motion racing simulators creating an immersive experience, together with an extensive food and beverage offering, it’s no surprise that the venue is incredibly popular.

The lighting designer for the project was Victoria Jerram, who has a wealth of experience in creating lighting schemes for hospitality and entertainment venues. Victoria Jerram specified solutions from Lucent Lighting to bring her lighting design to life.

Energy efficiency was absolutely critical for the client in this project. The venue has a restricted-energy load, and the simulators already use a huge proportion of the limits. The lighting therefore needed to be low-energy. Lucent Lighting’s new High Efficacy range of solutions were ideal, with an impressive 95lms delivered per circuit watt ensuring Part L V2 General compliance.

Lucent Lighting’s Mains Voltage Track has been used suspended throughout the venue, partnered with the TubeLED Mini High Efficacy (HE) spotlight. The track is a universal mains voltage 3 circuit track platform offering multiple control protocols and mounting options.

Top of the podium is the TubeLED Mini HE with market leading efficiencies and light performance, 60mm diameter with integral driver, 4 beam options and anti-glare baffle as standard.

Elsewhere in the venue, the TubeLED Mini High Efficacy Monopoint has been used in various locations. This versatile solution offers three different mounting options - Surface MonoPoint, Recessed MonoPoint and Trimless MonoPoint.

To provide illumination in the venue’s restroom and the corridors leading to the restrooms, Lucent Lighting’s ProSpex Duo Accent with LED51 High Efficacy engine has been specified. This accent downlight features a 60mm tapered black baffle and is adjustable up to 35°.

All of these solutions are from Lucent Lighting’s new dedicated Part L range.

John Carey from Lucent Lighting said: “The F1® Arcade in Birmingham is a fun and lively venue. The lighting is an integral part of the experience, so it was vital to source the right luminaires to create an inviting and immersive atmosphere.

“It was also crucial that the luminaires delivered the highest levels of energy efficiency as the venue had to meet strict regulations in this area. Our Part L compliant family of solutions blends compliance with stunning aesthetics and a range of functionality, fulfilling even the most complex of lighting designs.”

Victoria Jerram, lighting designer, commented: “One of the main reasons for working with Lucent Lighting was the availability of spotlights in their product portfolio that are Part L compliant. Energy efficiency was key in this venue as it has a restricted-energy load and high energy needs for the simulators. The lighting needed to therefore counterbalance this.

“Working with Lucent Lighting was a breeze. The team were incredibly responsive and handled challenges calmly and expertly. For example, an additional number of spotlights had to be supplied for the last-minute addition of a life-size replica F1® car mounted on the ceiling in front of the bar. This was only 3 weeks before completion, so Lucent delivered the fittings to the site in person – this is truly 5* customer service.”
